Sing to God a Brand New Song

I awoke this morning in Capetown with a view
overlooking the Atlantic. When I turned to the Psalms, an appropriate song was
given me.

The air is crisp and cool. The ocean is breaking in the morning light. The crests of the waves are glistening white in the Eastern sun. Gulls call sharply and surf roars. This is the scene to which I awoke this morning.

I instinctively turned to the Psalms and this is what I read:

Sing to God a brand-new song.
God has made a world of wonders!

The whole earth comes to attention.
Look–God’s work of salvation!

Shout our praises to God, everybody!
Let loose and sing, strike up the band!

Round up an orchestra to play for God,
Add on a hundred-voice choir.

Feature trumpets and big trombones,
Fill the air with praises to King God.

Let the sea and its fish give a round of applause,
With everything living on earth joining in.

Let ocean breakers call out, “Encore!”
And mountains harmonize the finale–

A tribute to God when God comes.
When God comes to set the earth right.

God will straighten out the whole world,
God will put the world right, and everyone in it.

Psalm 98
